ALMOST FAMOUS kicks off this Saturday 10/9

This Saturday October 9th is the big kickoff for our new weekly party at HG Lodge, ALMOST FAMOUS. We are planning on starting this new event with a large explosion of awesome, in the form of world famous dj and co-founder of the Invisibl Skratch Picklz, DJ Apollo. Joining him will be our Members Only brother in arms DJ Swervewon.

So in short, get your ass down there. No need to be afraid to go out on a Saturday night anymore. We're bringing it back to the basics and keeping it all about good music and good people.

The Physics @ Jet Set, 5.31.10

I was real excited to hear The Physics rock the one year anniversay of Jet Set. They were fresh of the release of the best three song EP ever, Three Piece and I had long heard their rep for destroying stages. I was never a fan of Future Talk but High Society kept them relevant in my ears.

For their short set The Physics kept the selections varied, giving us things from throughout the discography. "Ready For We" was the single from their debut and it's rolling piano keys keep your head nodding while Thig and Monk's bars will keep you thinking. The Capitol Club was cracking that night and there was no better way to celebrate one year of dope local hip hop than with one of the brightest out here rocking the mic.

Diezel P @ Jet Set, 5.24.10

I first heard Diezel P last year at the charity even in Portland Cold Nights War Coats which saw over 20 of the city's emcees come out and rock to a crowd that gained admittance either with a 10 dollar donation or they brought in coats to be distributed to the homeless and needy in the area. It was a great event and showed me a wide array of talent that the Bridgetown possess.

When Swerve told me he had booked Diezel P for Jet Set I was excited and he didn't disappoint that evening. This video captures his energetic presence and serious delivery and the crowd totally seems to be into it. He gave me a copy of his album that night and I never did make it through it unfortunately but this video has me on the hunt to dig it out and give it another go.

Ya Dig?

If you were somehow not in the building for their monumental performance at Neumo's a few years back, for shame! Digable Planets are back to give you another dose of that blowed out 90's golden age audible excellence Friday, August 21st.

I couldn't be happier about this show, for a few different reasons. One being that I wasn't sure how long their 'hiatus' would last...wondering if I would ever see one of my favorite groups ever perform again after such an amazing reunion tour was tough to swallow. Another reason for celebration is that Members Only's newest signee's Hi-Life Soundsystem (Khingz, B-Flat and Crispy) are going to open and bless y'all with some new classic material. Finally, I am djing the whole shebang, and that makes me a happy Stanley.

MICK BOOGIE (!!!!)

So the first big announcement of the day comes in the form of world-famous DJ Mick Boogie. Members Only is teaming with HG Lodge and Steady to bring you the Brooklyn mixtape maestro on Saturday 8/21. If you are not hip to his musical stylings I suggest you start with the incredible summer mixtape he put together with DJ Jazzy Jeff. I will be opening alongside local legend DJ Soul One, and this promises to be one helluva party.

Back to Ours

Tomorrow at the Triple Door I will be spinning with fellow vinyl enthusiast / mixmaestro DJ Bamboo for a new monthly event titled "Back to Ours." I am excited about this for numerous reasons... I have never played the Triple Door and it is a freaking fantastic venue... The Musicquarium has a 1,900 gallon fish tank that is fairly gangsteresque... I love spinning obscure vinyl and getting paid for it... My guy Bamboo is a ferociously talented DJ... and nothing beats digging through my collection and plucking out gems I forgot I had, or just remembering the stories behind each record. Preparing an all vinyl set is one of my favorite things to do in general.
